Steve Gets Things Done.

Supporting Utah’s Schools

Steve has served for several terms as the House Chair of the Public Education Appropriations Committee.  During that time, he has led the effort to pass historic increases to public education funding, without having to raise income taxes.  In addition to providing better funding for our schools, Steve has also been focused on the needs of our children and has supported legislation to ensure higher education and workforce preparation.

Promoting Financial Responsibility

Steve has been a critical leader in the effort to balance Utah’s budget every year and maintain our surplus—all while navigating a once in a generation pandemic and cutting millions in taxes for our local businesses and residents. He has been at the forefront of discussions to ensure sound tax and fiscal policy and has been recognized by a number of organizations and community groups for his balanced approach.

Prioritizing Mental Health

Steve has passed over 40 pieces of legislation to improve Utah’s mental health—especially for our young people. He led out on the effort, both statewide and nationally, to establish a mental health crisis hotline. He provided increased access to mental health resources in schools, including by adding significant funding to provide counselors in schools and training teachers and educators to be partners in ensuring mental health.

As a proud compassionate conservative, Steve believes that government works best when it serves to promote the “life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness” of every Utah resident. That’s why he has led the effort to enhance support services for refugees, increased the support systems for Utah’s homeless population during winter months, and sponsored programs to ensure housing security throughout Utah.
